Bespoke props & models · Leeds / Yorkshire

Prop making.By Tom Hunter.

I make bespoke props, costumes, sets and models for film, television and creative productions. From the first sketch to the finished piece, you work directly with me.

Brontide Media is my business. I’m your point of contact.

Prop making / My approach

Start with what it needs to do.

A prop needs to work in its world. How it looks on camera, how it is handled and where it will be used all shape the build. Bring your references, drawings or an early idea. With 20 years’ experience on film sets, I know what works on camera and what can look cheap or flimsy. I can work to a brief and deadline and deliver something that looks great on camera.

01

Props for camera

Objects designed around the shot, the story and the way they will be used. I’ll discuss visual references, movement, handling and the finish you need. I use 3D printing, CNC and hand finishing where the brief calls for them.

02

Scale models

A physical model starts with proportion and purpose. Share dimensions, reference material and how the finished piece will be filmed or displayed.

03

Bespoke creative builds

Have an unusual brief? Let’s establish the making approach, materials, practical limits and delivery requirements before committing to the build.

Working with me

From the first sketch to the finished piece.

01

Show me the idea

Send reference images or a drawing, the intended use, approximate dimensions and your deadline.

02

Agree the build

I’ll discuss feasibility, finish, scope and budget, then agree what will be made and delivered.

03

Make & review

Agree useful review points during the build so key design and finish decisions happen at the right time.

04

Ready for its role

Delivery, collection or installation requirements are agreed as part of the project.

A few practical details

Before we begin.

What should I include in a prop enquiry?

References, approximate dimensions, quantity, the intended use and a required date are a useful start. Add your budget range if you have one. An early idea is enough to begin a conversation about what is possible. I’m not limited by the size of a printer. The vault door shown in the selected builds measured six feet.

Can you work from a sketch or reference image?

Yes — send what you have. I’ll discuss the level of design development needed and agree a practical brief before making begins. Full CAD renders and mockups for approval will be provided.

Do you offer every material or size of build?

The making method and scale are assessed for each project. I’ll confirm what can be delivered, the finish and any practical limits before accepting a commission.

Can I see relevant prop-making work?

The selected builds above show a few examples. Select ‘View all 11 builds’ for the full portfolio, including scale models for Emmerdale, costume props and practical electronics. For a particular material or finish, tell me what you have in mind.
